Cyberpunk 2077 Mac benchmarks show most Apple Silicon can run the game at over 30 FPS on medium settings — results vary from a smooth 130+ FPS to a cinematic 24 FPS

Cyberpunk 2077 has made a significant leap into the Mac gaming arena, marking a notable milestone for AAA titles on this platform. After a lengthy wait of over four years since its initial release on PCs and consoles, the much-anticipated game has finally launched on macOS, coinciding with the rollout of patch 2.3. This development has sparked excitement among gamers who have longed for the opportunity to experience the dystopian world of Night City on their Apple devices.

Community Benchmarking Initiative

To assess the game’s performance across the diverse range of Mac and MacBook models, ComputerBase has initiated a community benchmarking effort. This marks the third occasion the platform has called upon gamers to contribute to performance evaluations of Cyberpunk 2077, following the first community benchmark conducted in 2022 with patch 1.5.

The editors at ComputerBase have outlined specific parameters for the community to follow while running the benchmarks. Participants are encouraged to test three distinct presets: Medium Preset, Ultra Preset, and Ray Tracing Medium Preset, under two resolutions—1920 x 1200 and 2560 x 1600. Key settings for the benchmarks include:

  • Enable upscaling with MetalFX set to Balanced (ray tracing disabled) or Performance (ray tracing enabled).
  • VSync must be turned off.
  • Maximum FPS should be set to off.
  • Windowed Mode should be configured to Full Screen.

As the community engages in this benchmarking process, there is optimism that the performance metrics will improve. With feedback from players who are testing the game on various Apple computers, CD Projekt Red is expected to refine and optimize Cyberpunk 2077 for Apple hardware, potentially unlocking the full capabilities of the powerful Apple silicon chips.

However, it is worth noting that while the game is compatible with Apple M chips, it remains unsupported on iPadOS devices that share the same hardware configuration, even those equipped with 16GB of memory. There is a lingering hope among gamers that both CD Projekt Red and Apple will reconsider this limitation, paving the way for AAA gaming experiences on iPads in the future.
