With the recent launch of Chapter 37, Dead by Daylight has unveiled one of its most captivating and macabre Killers to date: The Krasue. This chilling character is accompanied by a new Survivor, Vee, both of whom draw inspiration from Thai culture and folklore. As the game expands its roster of original and crossover characters, it finds itself at a pivotal juncture. Behaviour Interactive has opted to delay its upcoming licensed chapter, prioritizing the enhancement of the core gameplay experience while addressing a growing list of bugs and balance issues.
Exploring New Horizons
The latest chapter introduces players to The Krasue, a haunting entity that can emerge from its human host like a demonic parasite, hunting down opponents with a terrifying presence. Vee, the new Survivor, marks a significant cultural exploration for the game, showcasing the untapped potential of global folklore in creating unique characters. Dave Richard, the creative director of DBD, shared insights into his vision for the game, revealing a world map filled with potential locations and stories that could inspire future content. While he kept the specifics under wraps, the excitement for new narratives is palpable.
Richard describes The Krasue as one of the most ambitious and gruesome Killers yet, instilling a sense of confidence within the Behaviour team to explore even more radical concepts for future characters and themes. “After ten years of DBD, I would like to say that we are unstoppable,” he asserts. “The team will find a solution to make any idea work, but we definitely do not have everything. We can still explore different types of Killers and gameplay experiences.” He emphasizes that the possibilities are “infinite.”
Addressing Complexity and Accessibility
However, the drive for innovation comes with its own set of challenges. Currently, DBD is navigating a complex landscape, prompting Behaviour to announce a strategic plan aimed at improving the game’s overall state. This includes the postponement of the November licensed chapter, a decision made in response to community feedback and concerns regarding the game’s increasing complexity.
“We are aware that the game has grown in complexity,” Richard acknowledges. “It is becoming dense and difficult for new players to engage, given the vast amount of content available. We recognize this as an issue and are committed to making the game more accessible.” The goal is to create a more user-friendly experience, allowing players to easily access the information they need while ensuring that the development team can maintain the game effectively.
Richard elaborates on the importance of regular content updates, stating, “A chapter is something we need to build. It is very healthy for the game and for our community. Every three months, players expect new characters and features.” He mentions that Behaviour has already implemented various modes and events to keep the community engaged, and they are actively learning how to adjust their roadmap to manage content density better. While changes to the frequency of new chapters may occur, he reassures fans that Killers, Survivors, and perks will continue to evolve and remain integral to the game.
