Exciting Developments in Enshrouded’s Upcoming Update
At the recent Triple-I Initiative, the team behind the open-world survival RPG, Enshrouded, unveiled details about the highly anticipated update scheduled for next month. Titled “Rebirth of the Shroud,” this update promises to introduce a host of formidable new monsters and enigmatic locations that players will encounter in the treacherous shrouded regions of the game. Additionally, it will feature a fresh system enabling players to craft powerful, customizable weapons.
In a conversation with Antony Christoulakis, the creative director of Enshrouded, he elaborated on the focus of the upcoming update, named “Thralls of Twilight.” Christoulakis emphasized that the shroud’s current state is not yet robust enough, prompting the introduction of new adversaries and enhancements to the terrain, as well as an increase in points of interest within these shadowy areas. “We aim to make combat more engaging,” he noted, hinting at the exciting new mechanics that will be introduced.
One particularly intriguing feature involves the discovery of special gems that players can embed into their weapons, each offering unique abilities. “These gems can be found during combat or in treasure chests,” Christoulakis explained. “Players can enhance these gems, retaining their specific effects throughout the game.” When the update launches, players will find weapons with the potential for gem slots, but accessing these slots will require locating “special forges” hidden in perilous locations within the shroud.
Christoulakis further clarified, “The higher the weapon’s rarity, the greater the likelihood it will have a gem slot. Players can mix and match gems and weapons, but they must first unlock the slot before inserting the gem at designated locations.” This new mechanic adds an enticing layer of strategy, encouraging players to explore the shrouded regions more thoroughly.
In response to player feedback, Keen Games has also been enhancing the shrouded areas to ensure they are more engaging. “Some regions felt too empty, allowing players to traverse them without encountering obstacles or varied dangers,” Christoulakis admitted. “We recognized the need for greater diversity in these environments.” Additionally, nighttime gameplay is set to receive a significant overhaul, with Christoulakis teasing that new elements will emerge after dark, providing players with compelling reasons to venture out rather than simply waiting for daylight.
While many players have expressed a desire for water features to be added to the game, Christoulakis confirmed that this will not be included in the upcoming update. “Integrating water into a dynamic voxel-based world presents challenges, particularly with player interactions,” he explained. However, he reassured fans that the development team is actively working on this feature for future updates.
In a noteworthy milestone, Keen Games announced that Enshrouded has surpassed four million players since its early access launch in January 2024. The “Thralls of Twilight” update will mark the sixth significant enhancement to the game, further enriching the experience for its growing community.
