Epic Games Store Launches on iOS in the EU
Fortnite is making a comeback on iOS, but only in the European Union for now, after being removed from the App Store by Apple four years ago. This exciting news coincides with the official launch of the Epic Games mobile app store.
- The Epic Games Store is now live on iOS in the EU and globally on Android, as announced by the company in a recent blog post.
- Currently, the store features three popular games: Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe. Players who download the EGS will receive special cosmetic rewards for these titles.
- During a press conference, Epic Games Store general manager Steve Allison revealed the company’s ambitious goal of reaching 100 million new EGS mobile installs by the end of the year. A curated library of third-party games is set to be available in December.
- Allison also mentioned that Epic Games is in discussions with the top 250 mobile developers to bring more exciting titles to the platform.
- The mobile version of the EGS will follow the same 88/12 revenue share model as on PC, offering free games and special programs like Epic Rewards and Epic First Run.
- Epic Games aims to establish the Epic Games Store as the premier multiplatform game store, welcoming all app and game developers to join.

The main challenge for the Epic Games Store on iOS is Apple’s strict policies. Despite facing hurdles, Epic Games managed to launch the store on iOS by complying with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) regulations. Apple initially rejected Epic’s submission to launch a third-party app store but later approved it for notarization after public pressure.
Apple’s recent introduction of additional fees, including a 20% charge on sales made through external links, has made it harder for developers to operate outside the App Store. Epic Games will need to work hard to persuade third-party developers to utilize the EGS on iOS amidst these challenges.
