Epic Games has reached a resolution in its legal dispute with former contractor Hayden Cohen, who was accused of leaking sensitive information regarding upcoming Fortnite skins and events prior to their official announcements. This case, which garnered attention earlier this year, highlighted the company’s commitment to protecting its intellectual property and maintaining the confidentiality of its partnerships.
Details of the Settlement
In March, Epic Games publicly announced its decision to take legal action against Cohen, citing repeated breaches of confidentiality that compromised the integrity of their collaborations. The company stated, “We absolutely do not allow this and will continue to take action when Epic team members share confidential info. It harms our partners and makes it harder to bring awesome IP to our games.”
Cohen was specifically accused of disseminating information about various Fortnite collaborations, including those with well-known brands such as South Park, Minecraft, and Ben 10. The recent settlement, as reported by Game File, includes a judgment that prohibits Cohen from “possessing, accessing, using, or disclosing any of Epic’s confidential or trade secret information.”
Interestingly, the settlement does not appear to involve any financial compensation, and when approached for clarification, an Epic spokesperson refrained from commenting on that aspect. Natalie Munoz, representing Epic, confirmed the company’s stance: “We took legal action against the former contractor who repeatedly leaked confidential partner IP and trade secrets that they received while working with Epic.”
Prior to the deactivation of his account, Cohen had allegedly shared leaked information through X, utilizing the handle @AdireFNInfo, which amassed over 13,000 followers before being shut down. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges that companies like Epic Games face in safeguarding their proprietary information in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.
