First Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PC Update Released, Is 17GB, Full Patch Notes

Square Enix has unveiled the inaugural title update for the PC version of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, accompanied by a comprehensive set of patch notes. This initial patch, weighing in at a substantial 17.7GB on Steam, introduces a variety of enhancements aimed at refining the gaming experience.

Patch Highlights

The update, designated as Patch 1.001, focuses primarily on improving overall game stability, incorporating several bug fixes that enhance the user experience. Notably, it updates the DirectStorage DLL to its latest iteration, ensuring smoother performance. Additionally, players launching the game for the first time on a Steam Deck will find that the graphics preset is now correctly set to ‘Low’, even when cloud save data is linked. Subsequent launches will apply the saved settings seamlessly.

For those utilizing PCs equipped with NVIDIA DLSS technology, the default setting for the ‘Anti-Aliasing Method’ has been adjusted to ‘DLSS’, optimizing visual fidelity right out of the gate.

However, it’s essential to manage expectations regarding this update. While it addresses some quality-of-life issues, it does not tackle shader compilation stutters or low-quality textures, nor does it introduce significant performance enhancements or optimizations. Essentially, this patch serves as a minor hotfix rather than a transformative overhaul of the gaming experience.

For players seeking an upgrade in visual quality, a 4K Texture Pack is available for download, revamping approximately 1,300 environmental textures. Additionally, 4K mods for the main cast can further elevate the aesthetic appeal of the game.

As always, Steam will automatically download this update during the next client launch. Below, you can find the complete changelog for Patch 1.001.
