Tyler ‘sym’ Porter, a prominent figure in the Valorant esports community, tragically lost his life at the young age of 21 due to a car accident. The incident also claimed the life of his close friend, Austen. Remembering a Rising Star

In a heartfelt message, Harry, a close friend of sym, expressed his sorrow: “With a broken heart I write this message to everyone that sadly my best friend sym and our good friend Austen sadly passed away late last night in a car accident. Tyler was celebrating his 21st birthday trip. I know he brought laughs and smiles to a lot of people and if you have a nice memory or interaction with him please feel free to share it.”

sym’s journey in the esports arena began in 2020 with Phoenix1, where he quickly made a name for himself. His talent caught the attention of Team Serenity, leading to a brief but impactful tenure. A year later, he joined TSM’s academy team, further solidifying his reputation. In 2023, he became a founding member of Moist Moguls, a team led by well-known content creators Charlie ‘MoistCr1TiKaL’ White and Ludwig Ahgren. His competitive spirit shone brightly in the VCT Challengers circuit, and he recently served as a stand-in for Windthrop University’s Valorant team.

Throughout his career, sym showcased remarkable skills, highlighted by a stunning ace against Galorys during the 2024 VCT Ascension tournament group stage. Beyond his prowess in gaming, sym was cherished for his warm personality and ability to forge deep connections with those around him.

Harry fondly reminisced about their friendship, stating, “I met Tyler in 2016 and we immediately became friends. I was 12 when we met. I’m now 22 and if I had a million lives I’d pick to grow up together with Tyler in all of them. Anything I ever had to deal with he would be the first person I went to and I like to think it was the same way for him. I would change a single part of this last decade; I just wish I got to grow up and go to each other’s house with a beer and watch the Cowboys game together like we always said we would. R.I.P you will always be my brother.”

The esports community mourns the loss of sym and Austen, sending thoughts and condolences to all who were touched by their lives. Their legacy will undoubtedly live on through the memories and stories shared by friends, family, and fans alike.
