GTA 5’s huge free PC upgrade is here now

Late last month, Rockstar Games unveiled a significant free update for Grand Theft Auto V, elevating the game to match the capabilities of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. This upgrade, now officially titled Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, is available to all PC players who own the base game, and the transition is designed to be seamless and user-friendly.

Easy Access to Enhanced Features

The Enhanced version can be found in digital libraries for players on platforms such as Steam, Epic Games, and the Rockstar Games Launcher. For those who do not see it automatically, a simple search for Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced will allow them to redeem it at no cost. However, the majority of users are experiencing automatic updates, ensuring a smooth upgrade process.

Players looking to carry over their progress from the previous version, now referred to as Grand Theft Auto V Legacy, can easily do so by selecting the Migrate Profile option within GTA Online or the pause menu in the single-player campaign. It is important to note that this migration can only be performed once and cannot be reversed. While the migration process may take some time depending on server load, players will be unable to access GTA Online during this period.

For those whose systems may not meet the new graphical requirements, the Legacy version remains accessible. Purchasing the Enhanced version automatically includes a copy of the Legacy version across all PC platforms, ensuring that players have options regardless of their hardware capabilities.

The Enhanced edition introduces a range of technical and graphical improvements, such as:

  • Support for faster SSDs, significantly reducing loading times.
  • New ray tracing features, including ambient occlusion and global illumination.
  • Compatibility with AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS technologies.
  • Additional vehicles and features in GTA Online, including a subscription option for GTA+ that offers extra content.
