Here’s a game that combines jigsaw puzzles with arithmetic problems to great success

An Indie Puzzler Simplifies Circuits with Math

An upcoming indie puzzler, Electrogical, is set to release this year with a demo currently available. The game takes on the complexity of circuits by reducing them to familiar puzzle pieces and simple math. Players will place pieces on the board to form a chain that adds, subtracts, divides, and multiplies to reach a set output. However, the pieces are fixed in shape and rotation, the boards come in weird sizes, and not every part may be needed to succeed.

Electrogical is designed to be approachable for both puzzle and math game enthusiasts, without time or attempt limits. It aims to reward creative approaches by the player. The game introduces challenge levels with simple solutions, allowing players to chase high scores by using more or fewer pieces depending on the goal. Bonuses are also given for forming shapes with the pieces or balancing math like an equation.

“Electricity, hardware, and technology can be very complicated topics, but when broken down into their simplest form, anyone can understand the basics. Electrogical gamifies the basics of electrical engineering,” said Yutuka Kinjo, the solo developer behind the game, in a press release.

The demo on Steam features cute puzzles and gradually introduces players to the game’s style. It even includes clever moments where players must solve a circuit to change the soundtrack. Electrogical can be found on Steam, along with its demo.
