For players seeking an efficient method to gather materials in Monster Hunter Wilds, the introduction of the Material Retrieval mechanic offers a promising solution. This feature becomes accessible upon reaching High Rank and completing the main storyline. After aiding the inhabitants of the Forbidden Lands, these villagers become your resourceful allies, collecting essential items to satisfy your ongoing demand for consumables.
To unlock Material Retrieval in each region, players must complete specific sidequests. While these quests gradually become available as you progress through High Rank, the initial two are ready for you right from the start:
- Beware the Gypceros: Speak with Zatoh in Kunafa and hunt a Gypceros in the Windward Plains. Completing this quest unlocks Material Retrieval with Murtabak.
- Aida’s Apprehensions: Converse with Aida in the Everforge and hunt a Rompopolo in the Oilwell Basin. This quest unlocks Material Retrieval with Sabar.
As you explore the Scarlet Forest, for instance, you might find Plumpeach, who has the potential to gather the elusive Great Hornfly, unlocking special armor sets like the Butterfly and King Beetle. Alternatively, players can acquire this item through trading with Gawdygog and Musharpeye at the Wudwud Hideout. It’s worth noting that resting in your tent will refresh the items collected by each villager, allowing them to incrementally gather resources over time. If you find yourself without a specific material need, setting villagers to gather ‘Any’ will provide a diverse assortment of items.
How to activate a Gathering Boost
Enhancing your item collection can be achieved through the Gathering Boost mechanic, which is activated by assisting a settlement in distress. When a region is experiencing monster troubles, a notification will appear stating, “A settlement is having monster trouble!” Selecting this alert allows you to create a quest directed towards the specified monster.
Upon successfully defeating the creature, return to the Material Retrieval menu, where you’ll notice a blue arrow next to the item gatherer from the settlement you aided. This symbol indicates that they are now gathering items at an accelerated rate. Additionally, the item selection menu will display the remaining duration of the boost.
It’s important to note that Gathering Boosts also positively influence item trading within the region you assisted. Traders marked with a blue arrow will offer one of their items at an increased limit, allowing for a more generous trade than usual, further enhancing your resource-gathering capabilities.
