In the realm of Monster Hunter Wilds, the elusive Novacrystal plays a pivotal role in enhancing your weaponry, particularly for those pursuing the final weapon of the Ore tree and the second Rey Dau weapon. This coveted material is essential for players who favor a pure physical damage build or those who thrive on thunder-infused combat. However, acquiring Novacrystal is not a straightforward endeavor; it becomes accessible only upon reaching High Rank.
Monster Hunter Wilds Novacrystal location
To obtain Novacrystal, hunters have two primary avenues:
- Harvest mining outcrops located in the Ruins of Wyveria during High Rank.
- Break the head or destroy wounds of a Gypceros during High Rank hunts.
The first method is relatively uncomplicated. After completing the main story and defeating a Yian Kut-Ku, players will ascend to High Rank. From there, a trip to the Ruins of Wyveria is in order, where several mining outcrops await. Notably, one can be found near the entrance to Sild, with additional deposits located in area 5 and area 8.

It’s important to note that Novacrystal is a rare drop. When you successfully mine one, your hunter will perform a distinctive animation, examining the shiny rock. If luck isn’t on your side initially, consider waiting for the mining nodes to reset or resting at your tent for 300 Guild Points to refresh them.
The second method for acquiring Novacrystal involves engaging with the Gypceros. By breaking its head, hunters have a 30% chance of obtaining a Novacrystal, while destroying any of its wounds yields a smaller 12% chance. Given these odds, mining is generally the more reliable strategy. However, participating in the Beware the Gypceros quest in Kunafa not only provides an opportunity to hunt this creature but also unlocks villager Material Gathering in the region. Thus, it may be worth your while to take on the Gypceros, break some parts, and see if fortune favors you.
