Jack Black’s ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’ Jockeys to No. 1 on Top Movie Songs Chart

Jack Black’s whimsical creation, “Steve’s Lava Chicken,” has made a splash in the music industry, achieving the remarkable feat of debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Movie Songs chart for April. This catchy tune, featured in A Minecraft Movie, has not only captured the hearts of fans but has also set a record as the shortest song ever to grace the Billboard Hot 100.

Chart Performance and Streaming Success

The song’s ascent to the top spot follows its first month of tracking, coinciding with the film’s release on April 4. According to data from Luminate, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” garnered an impressive 20.1 million official on-demand streams in the U.S. and sold 3,000 downloads during April. This surge in popularity propelled it to debut at No. 78 on the Hot 100, clocking in at a mere 34 seconds—though a longer version exists at one minute and 15 seconds.

In this latest chart iteration, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” outperformed a trio of established hits. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ classic “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” from The Electric State secured the No. 2 position with 14.6 million streams and 1,000 downloads. Following closely, Chappell Roan’s “Casual” from Novocaine claimed the No. 3 spot with 13.8 million streams, while Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” from The Gorge rounded out the top four with 2.4 million streams and 1,000 downloads.

The chart also welcomed a new entry from Rod Wave, whose track “Sinners” debuted at No. 5 after its release on April 18, amassing 14.3 million streams and 1,000 downloads. With the movie’s first full month of tracking approaching, further activity for “Sinners” is anticipated in the upcoming May chart.

Additionally, Eric Prydz’s 2004 hit “Call On Me” made a notable return, starting at No. 7 thanks to its inclusion in Warfare. The track achieved 2.6 million streams and 1,000 downloads in April, while simultaneously re-entering the Billboard charts through the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales list.

The current top 10 also showcases a diverse array of music from various films, including contributions from Snow White and Holland.
