Jason Momoa is poised to embark on another adventure in the Overworld as he prepares for the production of the highly anticipated Minecraft Movie sequel. The actor, who captivated audiences as the champion pro gamer Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison in the original film, shared exciting news during his recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“Very soon. Dude. Bro, end of April. They’re in it,” Momoa revealed, hinting at the imminent start of filming. He expressed his enthusiasm for the script, stating, “The script is even better. It’s so good, I was laughing out loud. I haven’t laughed out loud in a very long time at a script. I was perplexed on the first script, this one I’m laughing out loud.”

Production Details

In October, Deadline reported that director Jared Hess would return to helm A Minecraft Movie 2, with a script co-written by Hess and Chris Galletta. The sequel is slated for a theatrical release on July 23, 2027.

Hess previously shared his excitement about the sequel, noting that the first film’s record-breaking box office success, which marked Warner Bros’ third largest opening of all time, paved the way for further exploration of the Minecraft universe. “We had so much fun making this movie, and it’s such an expansive world in the game, and there were so many things that we didn’t tap into that we wanted to,” he explained. “I would have a blast doing the sequel, and it seems like there’s already talk about it happening, so I’m super excited. It’ll be so much fun to go back into the world. The fans are just having such a good time. We teased it in the end credits, and the fans seem to be going wild for it.”

As fans eagerly await the sequel, Hess hinted at the introduction of “the other massively critical character” from the game, Alex, who will join Steve, portrayed by Jack Black. “It’s Steve and Alex, and so that’s the one that we will be bringing to the table without a doubt,” he noted, further fueling anticipation for the upcoming film.
