Marvel Tokonn: Fighting Souls has officially launched, and while console players seem to be enjoying the 4v4 tag fighting experience, PC gamers are encountering a host of technical challenges. Reports of stuttering and netcode issues have marred the initial excitement, leading to a mixed user score on Steam. The predominant negative feedback centers around these technical difficulties, with many players expressing frustration despite having hardware that exceeds the minimum specifications set by the developers.
Technical Troubles and User Experiences
User feedback has been vocal, with one player, Lameme14, sharing their disappointment on the game’s Steam page. They expressed enthusiasm for the title but lamented their inability to launch the game, citing an anti-cheat system that leads to a black screen and excessive CPU usage. After extensive troubleshooting, they managed to get the game running, only to find it plagued by persistent micro jitters.
Another user, Vestige, highlighted the absence of Linux support as a significant drawback. They noted, “This game is aggressively hostile to Linux players for absolutely no reason.” The user pointed out that many fighting games, including those from ArcSys and Sony, have historically functioned well on Linux, making this oversight particularly frustrating for a segment of the gaming community.
Furthermore, the game appears to be incompatible with SteamOS without considerable workarounds. For instance, while the Steam Machine can run Marvel Tokonn, it requires a Windows boot drive to do so, as demonstrated by producer Karim Jovian on social media.
Performance Issues and Community Solutions
The stuttering problems have been particularly concerning, as the game struggles to maintain a steady 60fps. Although the frame drops are minor, they disrupt gameplay, especially in online matches. This inconsistency forces the rollback netcode to adjust the experience for both players, meaning that even if one player’s setup is flawless, the presence of stuttering on the opposing side can diminish the overall enjoyment of the match.
In light of these challenges, the developers of Marvel Tokonn have acknowledged the feedback and are actively investigating the reported issues. Meanwhile, players are taking matters into their own hands. Some console users have opted to disable crossplay with PC players, which appears to alleviate some of the problems.
Despite the rocky launch, there remains hope for a swift resolution that will restore the excitement surrounding this fighting game, especially following a successful open beta that had garnered positive attention, albeit with some hiccups due to a PSN outage.
