Microsoft accidently leaks Xbox UI mockup that includes PC games Steam label
Microsoft appears to be gearing up for a significant update to the Xbox App, which is set to provide users with a comprehensive view of every game installed on their PCs, including titles from both Steam and Epic Games. This development came to light when a mockup of the new user interface was inadvertently included in an official blog post titled “GDC 2025: Opening a Billion Doors with Xbox.” Although the image was quickly removed following inquiries, it had already caught the attention of observant viewers who managed to save a copy.
User Interface Insights
The mockup revealed an Xbox UI displayed on a television screen. At first glance, it may seem unremarkable, but a closer look unveils a notable feature: a dedicated Steam tab alongside familiar categories such as Game Pass, Recently Added, and Owned. This same interface, showcasing the Steam tab, was also depicted on tablets and handheld devices, hinting at a unified experience across various platforms.
While the leaked image prominently features the Steam label, sources have informed The Verge that Microsoft is indeed working on an update that will encompass all games installed on users’ PCs, which would also include titles from the Epic Games Store, despite its absence in the mockup. Tom Warren from The Verge noted, “I understand Microsoft will label these games accordingly,” although he cautioned that this update is still “in the early stages” of development and may not ultimately be released.
Inquiries have been made to Microsoft for further clarification regarding the leaked user interface images, but no additional comments have been provided as of yet.
In related news, reports earlier this month indicated that Microsoft is planning to launch its next-generation Xbox Series X/S successor in 2027. Additionally, speculation surrounds the anticipated release of a handheld Xbox device later this year, further expanding the company’s gaming ecosystem.
