In the wake of a tumultuous launch, Microsoft has offered an update regarding the ongoing challenges faced by MSFS 2024, particularly concerning its stability and frequent crashing issues. The development team took to X to announce that additional server capacity has been implemented to enhance player accessibility. However, this measure has not fully resolved the accessibility problems for all users.
We have increased our server capacity and are seeing more players accessing the sim, however, we are still seeing access issues continue. This is not the launch experience we want for our players and want to apologize to the community. We will continue to work around the clock…November 21, 2024
Despite these efforts, Microsoft continues to grapple with the overwhelming number of concurrent players attempting to engage with MSFS 2024. The playability issues first emerged on launch day, when a significant portion of players found themselves unable to access the game, with some even struggling to install it. This scenario has been characterized as one of the most problematic game launches in recent memory. Adding to the frustration, Microsoft did not provide pre-launch codes to reviewers, which hindered comprehensive evaluations from third-party sources, including Tom’s Hardware.
In a follow-up video update, Microsoft clarified the situation, revealing that the game’s servers were only tested with 200,000 simulated users prior to launch. This testing was intended to ensure the infrastructure could support that level of engagement. However, the actual player count quickly surpassed this threshold, leading to an immediate strain on the backend systems.
MSFS 2024 is currently experiencing significant challenges due to overwhelmed backend services, which are responsible for most of the accessibility and stability issues. The mission service database, in particular, is operating at full capacity, preventing many users from completing in-game missions. Additionally, some default aircraft have gone missing from user libraries.
While Microsoft is actively working to rectify these issues, the tech giant has yet to provide a clear roadmap or timeline for when full functionality will be restored for all players. The community remains hopeful for further updates as the situation develops, and we will continue to monitor the progress made by the Microsoft team.
