Facebook and Messenger hit by global outage

On June 12, users globally experienced significant disruptions on Facebook and Messenger starting around 7:45 PM Bangladesh time. Desktop users received an error message, while mobile app users faced frozen pages. Many were logged out of Messenger and saw an "Unable to log in" message. Initially, WhatsApp and Instagram appeared operational, but later reports indicated disruptions on Instagram and Threads, with the web version of WhatsApp also down for some users. Outage monitoring platforms Downdetector and Is It Down Right Now became inaccessible due to high traffic. By 8:18 PM, some users reported regained access to Facebook and Messenger, although issues persisted. Services for Facebook began restoring around 8:19 PM, with peak outage reports at 7:49 PM totaling 2,738 complaints. In the U.S., peak reports reached 113,843 at 7:55 PM. By the end of the evening, most services, including Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp, were accessible again, though sporadic issues remained for some users.

Microsoft just broke some custom folder icons, and it’s deliberate

Windows 11 users have reported that their custom folder icons have reverted to default settings due to new security protocols from Microsoft. If a desktop.ini file, which defines folder icons, is detected as coming from an untrusted source, Windows will automatically revert to the standard icon without notification. Microsoft has confirmed that 'untrusted' icons will no longer display, and identifies scenarios that classify a source as untrusted, including files downloaded from the internet with a Mark-of-the-Web (MOTW), files copied from certain remote locations, and files on unrecognized network paths. To restore customizations, users can add the source to their Trusted Sites list, enable the "Allow the use of remote paths in file shortcut icons" policy, or remove the Mark-of-the-Web tag from affected files.

Fix: Bluetooth Disappeared from Device Manager

Ensure Airplane mode is disabled and any physical wireless switch is turned on, as these can hide Bluetooth functionality. Running the Windows Bluetooth Troubleshooter via the Get Help app is recommended before manually changing drivers. After troubleshooting, restart the PC to allow Windows another chance to detect the radio. If Bluetooth reappears, the issue was likely temporary. If not, use Windows Update to check for driver updates, and if necessary, download the latest Bluetooth driver from the PC manufacturer’s support page. If the adapter reappears in Device Manager, uninstall it and allow Windows to rebuild it after a complete shutdown. If Windows still cannot detect any Bluetooth radio after these steps, treat it as a hardware or firmware issue. Verify that the PC has built-in Bluetooth hardware; if it does not appear after installing the correct OEM driver, seek support from the manufacturer. Alternatively, using a USB Bluetooth adapter can indicate that Windows Bluetooth support is operational, suggesting an issue with the built-in radio.
