Google takes Android Auto games out of beta
Google has officially announced that games for Android Auto and Android Automotive OS are now out of beta and available to all users. Previously, only a select few had access to games on their car dashboards through a beta program. Now, developers can publish their games through the open testing and production tracks on Google Play.
Currently, the Android Auto games category features popular titles like Beach Buggy Racing and Angry Birds 2. With the category now open to all developers, we can expect to see a wider selection of games in the near future.
It’s important to note that gaming on Android Auto is only available when the car is parked. This safety measure ensures that drivers are not distracted while on the road. Players can enjoy games while waiting at a charging station, picking someone up, or simply relaxing in the car before setting off on a journey.
If you attempt to launch a game while driving, Android Auto will display a message indicating that the game is not available while driving. The game’s audio will also not continue in the background once you start driving.
Developers are required to ensure that their games are compatible with various car displays, adapting to different screen sizes and resolutions seamlessly. They can also add controller support, allowing users to play games with a connected gamepad instead of using the car’s touchscreen.
Games on Android Auto will save the user’s session, restoring the app state as closely as possible when they return to the game. It’s worth noting that devices must be running Android 15 or higher to access the Games category on Android Auto.
