The landscape at Build A Rocket Boy, the developer behind the recently launched MindsEye, is shifting as the company prepares for potential layoffs. Reports from IGN indicate that the firm has communicated to its approximately 300 UK employees that they may face redundancy. This news extends to workers at PlayFusion, a subsidiary under Build A Rocket Boy’s umbrella since 2024, who have also been informed of possible job losses.
Challenges Following Launch
MindsEye, which debuted in early June, has encountered a rocky reception, both from critics and the marketplace. The game was marred by a series of technical difficulties at launch, prompting Build A Rocket Boy to undertake efforts to rectify these issues. In a meeting with staff on July 3rd, co-CEO and founder Leslie Benzies attributed some of the game’s challenges to what he described as “internal and external saboteurs.” This assertion echoes sentiments previously expressed by co-CEO Mark Gerhard, who suggested before the game’s release that there was a “concerted effort” aimed at undermining both the game and the studio.
Despite these claims, it’s worth noting that MindsEye’s publisher, a prominent name in the gaming industry, has publicly stated that they do not believe any sabotage occurred during the game’s development or launch.
