Minecraft PS5 Version Released Today
Mojang Studios has announced the release of a native PlayStation 5 version of Minecraft today, inviting users to become preview testers. Players who already own the PS4 version of the game will have access to this new version.
To test the early version on PS5, users simply need to navigate to the PS4 version of the game, click on “Settings,” and then select “Preview.” The preview is scheduled to launch around 9:30 AM PT / 12:30 PM ET. Mojang has emphasized that currently, purchasing the PS4 version is the only way to play the PS5 version, as the native version is optimized to run smoothly on the new hardware.
This preview also introduces the new Tricky Trials update, where players can team up or go solo to explore a maze filled with traps and treasures. However, multiplayer is only available between PS4 and PS5 in this preview, with no access to the Minecraft Store.
Last year, Minecraft was rated in Germany for the Xbox Series X|S, hinting at its arrival on current consoles. During the FTC trial related to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Xbox attributed the lack of a native PS5 version of Minecraft to Sony, stating that Sony did not provide development kits before the console’s release in 2020.
