Minecraft Movie is set to make its global streaming debut on Max this Friday, June 20, with a subsequent airing on HBO’s linear channel the following evening at 8:00 p.m. ET. For those who prefer accessibility, an American Sign Language (ASL) version, performed by Sophia Morales, will also be available on Max from the same date.
The film has already achieved remarkable success, grossing over 1 million worldwide, while garnering an impressive 85% rating from fans on Rotten Tomatoes.
Live-Action Adaptation of the Game
This cinematic venture marks the first live-action adaptation of Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time. Directed by Jared Hess, known for his work on Nacho Libre, the film features Jason Momoa in the role of Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, alongside Jack Black portraying Steve, the iconic player character from the game.
The ensemble cast also includes Emma Myers from Wednesday, Danielle Brooks of The Color Purple, Sebastian Hansen from Lisey’s Story, and the ever-charismatic Jennifer Coolidge. The narrative unfolds as a group of four characters is transported into the Overworld, a cube-based realm where they must navigate survival and fend off threats such as Piglins and Zombies.
