Rice Paddy Art Blossoms in Gyoda
In the heart of Gyoda, Saitama, the vibrant rice paddy art at Ancient Lotus Park has reached its zenith, captivating visitors with a design inspired by the globally acclaimed video game, Minecraft. This year’s artistic endeavor showcases a delightful blend of creativity and nature, drawing families eager to witness the spectacle.
The full panorama of this intricate design can be admired from the observation deck of Gyoda Tower, which rises 50 meters into the sky. The tower provides an ideal vantage point for guests to appreciate the sprawling artwork below, which measures approximately 180 meters in length and 165 meters in width.
Back in June, a dedicated group of around 1,000 volunteers came together to plant rice seedlings in four distinct colors, including the unique “Sai no kizuna” variety. As the seedlings flourished, they transformed into recognizable characters from the beloved game, alongside a pixelated rendition of the Gyoda Tower itself, all crafted with meticulous care.
Among the visitors was a 6-year-old boy from Yokohama, who expressed his excitement, stating, “I always build houses and things in Minecraft. The rice paddy art was amazing.” His enthusiasm reflects the joy that this innovative art form brings to both young and old alike.
The Gyoda city government anticipates that the prime viewing period will continue until mid-October, inviting more guests to experience this unique fusion of agriculture and art. Admission to the tower is set at 400 yen (approximately .60) for high school students and adults, while elementary and junior high school students can enter for 200 yen (around .30). Preschool children enjoy free access, making it an accessible outing for families.
