Minecraft’s new spear has already been buffed, so now you can actually use its best move

Minecraft has unveiled its latest update, Mounts of Mayhem, for the Bedrock edition, much to the delight of its community. Among the exciting new features is the introduction of the spear, a versatile weapon that enhances gameplay with its range and mobility, allowing players to knock adversaries off their mounts. However, the spear’s lunge ability, initially hampered by an exorbitant durability cost, has now received a welcome adjustment.

Enhancements and New Features

The spear is a key component of the Mounts of Mayhem update, which first debuted in a Java snapshot last week and has now made its way to Bedrock’s Minecraft preview. This update invites players to explore the survival game’s Nautilus mount, which offers the unique ability to breathe underwater while riding. Players can engage in thrilling battles against zombie horseback riders and fully utilize the spear’s capabilities.

To unlock the spear’s most exhilarating move, players must apply the new lunge enchantment. This enchantment transforms basic jab attacks into a powerful forward thrust, enabling swift navigation across the landscape, especially when paired with the Elytra cape. The combination allows for a spectacular charge attack, leveraging speed to deliver significant damage to opponents.

However, the lunge ability comes with a notable drawback: it significantly depletes the spear’s durability. At level one, it costs eight points, escalating to 32 at level two and a staggering 128 at level three. For context, a copper spear has a total durability of 190, while an iron spear boasts 250 durability points.

Compounding this issue was the inability to combine the lunge enchantment with mending, rendering the spear nearly impractical. Fortunately, the recent Minecraft snapshot has addressed this concern, allowing players to enchant their spears with both lunge and mending. This change enables players to repair their spears between dashes by collecting experience orbs from defeated mobs.

While there is still room for improvement regarding the durability cost, this update marks a positive shift. Additionally, players can now leash zombie horses after removing their undead riders, and the nautilus can be maneuvered on land, albeit with the risk of suffocation. This feature provides players a better chance to guide them back to water.

Minecraft snapshot 25w42a is now available, along with the first Mounts of Mayhem test release through Minecraft preview. For a comprehensive overview of the latest tweaks and data pack changes, players are encouraged to review the snapshot patch notes.
