Mike Tomlin has seamlessly transitioned from the football field to the studio, showcasing his talents on NBC’s Football Night in America while also indulging in the pixelated realms of Minecraft. This past Sunday, these two worlds collided in a delightful showcase that captivated audiences.
Tomlin’s Minecraft Moment
In a creative twist, NBC transformed the FNIA broadcast into a Minecraft user interface, presenting a highlight reel from Tomlin’s recent viral reveal of his Minecraft city, which had garnered significant attention during his appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

“Just in case you missed it, Coach Tomlin’s tour of his Minecraft city broke the actual internet,” remarked FNIA host Maria Taylor, highlighting the impressive 3 million views the video received. “You knew that was gonna happen when you posted it?”
To which Tomlin humbly replied, “No, I had no idea.” Taylor continued to share more statistics about Tomlin’s Minecraft venture, noting that these figures might even surpass his remarkable record of 19 consecutive winning seasons as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Adding to the excitement, NBC unveiled a Minecraft rendition of Bank of America Stadium, home to the Carolina Panthers, who faced off against the Detroit Lions for Sunday Night Football. The broadcast featured Minecraft avatars of Tomlin, Taylor, Devin McCourty, and Jason Garrett at the FNIA desk.
“You didn’t design it, but do you approve of it?” Taylor asked Tomlin, to which he responded, “Hey, as a Minecraft lover, I’m appreciating all of this, to be quite honest with you.”
The segment was filled with lighthearted banter as McCourty and Tomlin exchanged playful jabs about their Minecraft characters, with Tomlin humorously noting that McCourty’s avatar appeared a bit taller. Meanwhile, Garrett managed to evade any teasing during the exchange.

After stepping down from his coaching position in Pittsburgh earlier this year, Tomlin has not ruled out a return to the NFL. However, he has not provided any indication that he will be back on the sidelines in the near future. In a recent appearance on Up & Adams with Kay Adams, McCourty shared insights into Tomlin’s current state, noting how “genuinely happy” he seems in his new role within the media landscape.
“I know a lot of people are wondering when he’ll be back,” McCourty stated. “They’re asking if their favorite team is going to call him, and maybe, like, you never know. But I will say, right now, he is having a blast. Like, just everything we’re doing, he’s soaking it in. He’s having fun.”
With his newfound status as a YouTube sensation and Minecraft enthusiast, Tomlin appears to be thriving in his role as an analyst, embracing the opportunity to engage with fans in a whole new way.
