Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart Addresses Concerns Over Microsoft Studio Closures
The CEO of Obsidian, Feargus Urquhart, has reassured fans and employees that the company is not worried about the recent wave of studio closures by Microsoft. In an interview with PC Gamer, Urquhart expressed his distress over the layoffs and closures, citing his own experiences with managing similar situations in the past.
Urquhart emphasized that both he and the team are focused on the present and not dwelling on the uncertainties of the future. This comes in the wake of Xbox’s decision to close several studios, including Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin, as well as laying off 1.9k employees in recent months.
“It’s just horrible,” Urquhart said. “At Obsidian, we’ve had our fair share of challenges, including three layoffs before being acquired. These experiences rank among the worst days of my life, so I understand the impact of such decisions.”
Despite the industry turmoil, Urquhart remains optimistic about the future of Obsidian. “We are focused on our current projects, such as Avowed and Outer Worlds 2. While recent events have caused concern and shaken the industry, we are committed to delivering great games and pushing forward with our creative endeavors.”
