Remember Flappy Bird? It’s back as an Android exclusive

Flappy Bird Returns to Android Devices Through Epic Games Store

Epic Games Store has brought back the viral game Flappy Bird to Android devices, allowing players to once again guide the bird through obstacles by tapping the screen repeatedly. This revival comes over a decade after the game disappeared from Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store.

According to a report from Polygon, Flappy Bird Publishing worked with Epic Games to relaunch the game as an Android-exclusive title. Game developer Dong Nguyen had removed the game from app stores in 2014, but last year, he clarified that he was not involved in the game’s return and was not profiting from it.

In a news release on Tuesday, Flappy Bird Publishing announced that Flappy Bird will receive updates throughout 2025, including new worlds, characters, and themes. The game will be monetized through ads and in-game purchases, specifically helmets.

Despite the successful revival of Flappy Bird, there were challenges along the way, including controversy. Flappy Bird Foundation initially attempted to re-release the game on Telegram but later removed the information. Additionally, there were reports of a crypto company planning to remake the game with web3 and NFT elements.

In response to the crypto ties, Dong Nguyen expressed his disapproval of the game’s remake and clarified that he did not sell the game or its trademark to Flappy Bird Foundation. With Flappy Bird now back in the market, players can enjoy this classic game in a new and exciting way, alongside other popular titles like Angry Birds.
