Reports indicate that Samsung is making a significant shift in its Galaxy S lineup for next year. The company is bringing back the traditional Galaxy S26 Plus model and scrapping the rumored S26 Edge device. This move comes after a period of confusion with leaks and internal changes, leading to a return to a classic trio of models: the Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus model returns as slim phone trend fades
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus has been officially listed in the IMEI database, marking its comeback. This listing has caused a shift in the naming strategy for next year’s devices. The base Galaxy S26 was initially set to be renamed as the “Galaxy S26 Pro,” but with the return of the “Plus” model, the “Pro” moniker will be dropped, reverting back to the traditional “Galaxy S26.”
The trend of ultra-slim phones has not been well-received by the public, with both the S25 Edge and Apple’s iPhone Air experiencing low sales. As a result, Samsung is moving away from the risky “Edge” concept.
The camera conundrum
While the lineup is being finalized, the camera setup for the Galaxy S26 series remains uncertain. Early testing of the base S26 model shows it using the same sensor setup as the S25. However, Samsung is also experimenting with new hardware, including a 50MP main sensor and an upgrade for the ultra-wide camera.
