Performance Insights on Hollow Knight: Silksong
Hollow Knight: Silksong made an impressive debut on Steam charts shortly after its release by Team Cherry on September 4. The game achieved remarkable success on PC, with a peak of 587,150 concurrent players, showcasing its strong appeal among the gaming community. However, the console landscape tells a different story, particularly for PlayStation users in the United States.
According to Circana video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella, the PlayStation Store experienced a slower uptake of Silksong compared to its PC counterpart. While the game’s launch created a significant surge in player activity across various online platforms, the PlayStation Store appeared to be less impacted. Notably, it was hours behind in updating its listing for Silksong, which may have contributed to the subdued response from North American PS4 and PS5 players.
Many players opted to purchase the game through alternative channels or chose not to buy it at all, particularly given its availability for free to Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscribers. Piscatella emphasizes that these observations are based solely on the game’s release day, suggesting that interest may grow as word spreads among a broader audience.
In a nod to the competitive landscape, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 extends congratulations to Team Cherry on the launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong, which intriguingly aligns with the themes of the French JRPG and its own Game of the Year contenders.
