However, the twist came swiftly from an antique shop owner, who gleefully revealed that players would not be stepping into Garrett’s shoes. Instead, they would navigate the shadows in a virtual reality setting, a revelation that sparked mixed emotions among fans.

As Fraser Brown aptly noted following the announcement, the reaction was akin to a sudden jolt, particularly for a community that has passionately kept the Thief spirit alive through unofficial projects like The Black Parade. Yet, after watching the latest trailer, which coincided with the release date announcement, I find myself reconsidering my initial skepticism.
Concerns and Critiques
Despite this newfound optimism, certain reservations linger. The choice of voice actor for Magpie raises eyebrows; the use of British accents in a series deeply rooted in an urban fantasy inspired by American hard-boiled detective fiction feels misaligned. Magpie’s broad Lancastrian accent, in particular, strikes a discordant note, as phrases like “Y’alright, love?” seem out of place in the Thief universe.
Moreover, the essence of the Thief games has always been their peculiar charm. The unsettling atmosphere that once made players hesitate at the mere thought of exploring dark corners seems to be lacking in Legacy of Shadow. The previous titles thrived on an uncanny ambiance that could make even the most mundane spaces feel hauntingly alive.
