In a vibrant celebration of creativity and innovation, The Wandering Village has officially launched its 1.0 release, accompanied by an enchanting animated trailer that captures the essence of life in a toxic world. Players find solace in their village, uniquely situated on the back of a colossal six-legged creature named Onbu.
Developer Insights
Stray Fawn, the developer behind this captivating city-building game, reflected on the journey, stating, “We can’t believe it’s been 5 years since we first started working on the game.” Their enthusiasm was palpable during the early access phase in 2022, where the magic of the game first began to unfold.
One of the developers, Chris, shared his immediate connection to Onbu, saying, “I’m not sure what my speed record is for falling in love in a video game, but the moment I laid eyes on Onbu in The Wandering Village, my fate was sealed.” This gentle giant not only serves as the foundation for the village but also as a central figure in the player’s experience.
Players are given the freedom to shape their relationship with Onbu, choosing from various paths. Options include:
- Be good friends with Onbu
- Worship Onbu like a god
- Treat Onbu like a resource to be exploited—though this path raises ethical questions about the treatment of such a magnificent creature.
Despite the potential for exploitation, many players find it challenging to be unkind to Onbu, given its gentle nature and the bond it fosters with the village.
Future Updates
Looking ahead, Stray Fawn has announced that the first update post-release will be a 1.1 “Quality of Life/UX” update, aimed at enhancing the overall player experience. Following that, a 1.2 “Onbu Update” is set to introduce new features related to player interactions and relationships with Onbu, further enriching the gameplay.
The Wandering Village is available on Steam and can also be explored at thewanderingvillage.com, inviting players to immerse themselves in its unique world and forge their own stories atop the back of Onbu.
