Uprising ditches gaming L2 to publish mid-core games on PC/console

Since the launch of Gunzilla Games’ Off The Grid on PlayStation 5 and Xbox earlier this month, a wave of developers appears to be shifting their focus toward console gaming. Among these is Uprising Labs, a company that initially set its sights on creating an L2 blockchain based on the Japanese gaming-centric protocol Oasys.

Shifting Focus to Web3 Games

Originally, Uprising L2 aimed to establish itself as the first yield gaming blockchain, promising native yield rewards sourced from established networks such as Solana, Oasys, and Ethereum. However, in a notable change of direction, the company has decided to abandon its blockchain ambitions in favor of a more focused approach on publishing and launching high-quality web3 games.

In a recent statement, Uprising Labs expressed its belief that the web3 landscape currently requires “more great games” rather than an influx of new blockchains. This pivot reflects the team’s commitment to developing deeper, more qualitative gaming experiences, particularly tailored for PC and console platforms.

Uprising Labs has already begun to build momentum in the gaming community, having successfully minted its genesis NFT collection, which consists of 1,111 unique tokens. These NFTs were marketed with promises of long-term utility and various rewards, although the specifics of their future utility remain somewhat ambiguous.

In addition to its new focus, Uprising has announced plans to integrate web3 features into its tactical naval warfare game, Maelstrom, which has been available on Steam since 2019. This move signifies the company’s commitment to enhancing existing titles with innovative web3 elements, further solidifying its position in the evolving gaming landscape.
