‘We’re gonna do right by you’: Splitgate 2 CEO apologizes for server meltdown after the open beta goes live

The open beta for Splitgate 2 has encountered significant challenges, prompting developer 1047 Games to take the servers offline shortly after their launch on May 22. The company is now fully committed to resolving these issues, with CEO Ian Proulx expressing his disappointment in a video message. He acknowledged that the team had anticipated a smoother rollout, stating, “Obviously this is not the spot we thought we’d be in 24 hours after the launch of the beta.” Proulx, who has dedicated a decade to this project, conveyed his sincere apologies for the current situation.

Technical Difficulties and Player Experience

While the exact nature of the technical difficulties remains unclear, 1047 Games has identified a range of issues affecting gameplay, including slow matchmaking and delays in experience points and progress gains. Interestingly, player experiences varied; some reported minimal issues, while others faced significant barriers, such as being unable to enter the game or getting stuck in broken states. In light of these complications, the studio opted for a temporary shutdown to ensure a more efficient resolution.

Despite the beta not being fully operational, it is designed to transition seamlessly into the 1.0 release. The in-game shop is currently active, but players have experienced delays in receiving purchased items. Proulx reassured the community that all transactions have been recorded and will be honored upon the game’s return. “Any skin that you purchased or earned, it’s all there, it’s all in our system. You have not lost it, you have my word,” he stated.

Looking Ahead

In a silver lining, Proulx mentioned that the downtime has allowed the team to address several “really good bugs,” although he noted that these were not the critical issues at hand. As for when players can expect Splitgate 2 to return, a timeline has yet to be established. However, Proulx promised that a more comprehensive update would be shared later today, keeping the community informed as they work diligently to restore the game.
