In a significant turn of events for fans of indie gaming, Playdead Games, the studio behind the acclaimed puzzle platformers Limbo and Inside, has announced that both titles will be removed from the GOG platform. This decision comes amid a legal dispute that has surfaced between key figures within the company.
Legal Dispute and Its Implications
GOG, the popular PC storefront, informed its users that Limbo, released in 2010, and Inside, which debuted in 2016, will no longer be available starting July 17, 2025. A representative from GOG expressed regret over the situation, stating, “We don’t have any information on discounts yet. Wish I could have better news for you, but grab it while it’s still here.” Currently, Inside is available at a remarkable 90% discount, prompting fans to seize the opportunity before it disappears from the platform.
The legal conflict became public earlier this year when a former employee, Patti, revealed that he had received threats of legal action from a colleague regarding a LinkedIn post he made about the development of Limbo. This tension escalated last month when Playdead’s legal team initiated a lawsuit against Patti, who contends that the action aims to diminish his contributions to the games. In a letter addressed to Patti, the studio stated, “By providing recipients with core insights to the process of developing Limbo, you are falsely giving the impression that you played a significant role, including a creative role, in the development of the game.”
As the situation unfolds, the gaming community watches closely, hoping that the creativity and innovation that characterized Playdead’s previous titles will continue to thrive, unencumbered by internal disputes. Meanwhile, anticipation builds for the studio’s upcoming project, which is reportedly being funded by Epic Games.
Here are some upcoming indie games of 2025 and beyond that hopefully won’t be dragged into future beefs.
