Witcher 4 dev not sure if CDPR will take a Baldur’s Gate 3-style PC-first release
As the development of The Witcher 4 progresses, anticipation is building regarding its platform release strategy. In a recent dialogue with Eurogamer, Charles Tremblay, the vice president of technology at CD Projekt Red, shared insights into the studio’s approach, particularly in light of the success of 2023’s Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3.
Platform Strategy Discussion
During the interview, Tremblay was asked about the possibility of a PC-first launch for The Witcher 4, akin to Larian Studios’ strategy with Baldur’s Gate 3. This approach has been suggested as a way to circumvent some of the development challenges that plagued Cyberpunk 2077, particularly those associated with optimizing for last-generation consoles.
However, Tremblay expressed reservations about adopting a similar path. He emphasized the importance of a balanced approach that considers the diverse gaming landscape and the expectations of players across various platforms. His comments suggest a commitment to ensuring that The Witcher 4 delivers a polished experience, regardless of the platform it ultimately launches on.
As fans eagerly await further announcements, the conversation around platform strategy continues to evolve, reflecting the complexities of modern game development and the need to cater to a wide audience.
