Google Play Games on PC Update Allows for Keyboard Controls

Mobile games have gained immense popularity due to their convenience, but some gamers prefer playing on a PC. Google Play Games on PC now offers a new feature that allows players to remap game controls to their keyboard.

The latest update, released in January 2025, includes a remap controls tool accessible via Shift + Tab during gameplay. This tool enables users to add invisible buttons for screen taps and joysticks that respond to key presses, such as WASD or arrow keys.

Players can customize the size, position, and labels of these virtual controls for a personalized gaming experience. Control mappings are saved between sessions and can be shared with others using the import/export feature.

While the tool is currently available for “supported games,” it is expected that any game requiring a mouse will work with this feature. Google plans to introduce more control options in future updates, drawing inspiration from existing hardware remap apps and gaming smartphones.

In addition to the remap controls tool, the January 2025 update also allows users to adjust the refresh rate (FPS) for individual games through the visual settings menu accessed by pressing Shift + Tab.
