According to the government’s motion for detention, May allegedly utilized four distinct applications—Kik, Telegram, Mega, and Loki Messenger—to distribute child sexual assault material (CSAM). Notably, investigators reported that all four apps were deleted within seconds of each other in April of last year, just four months before a search warrant was executed at May’s residence.
Kik, a messaging platform that allows users to communicate without needing a registered phone number, presents accessibility challenges, particularly for younger users. Telegram and Mega, both cloud-based services, are often favored by individuals involved in CSAM due to their encryption features and foreign ownership.
