In a recent wave of disruptions, users of Instagram and Facebook Messenger have encountered significant challenges accessing their accounts and sending messages. Reports indicate that over 2,000 individuals have experienced issues within just the last hour, with many expressing frustration over direct messages failing to send.
Some users have reported that the app crashes upon attempting to log in, while others have noted a decline in video quality. This sudden outage has left many wondering about the reliability of these platforms. One user, identified as Min, lamented, “Instagram is down… can’t send messages to anyone.” Another user, Sue, echoed this sentiment, asking, “Is it just me, or is anyone else unable to send messages on Instagram?” The collective confusion was further highlighted by a user who quipped, “Ignored your DM? No, I didn’t! Instagram is down!”
User Reports and Technical Insights
According to DownDetector, which compiles user-submitted reports, the number of affected users may vary. One user shared their experience, stating, “Messages aren’t delivering and show ‘failed to deliver’ after a few minutes. Anyone else experiencing this?” This incident is reminiscent of a similar outage earlier this year, when hundreds of thousands of users faced disruptions for over two hours due to a technical issue. At that time, more than 550,000 reports were logged for Facebook and around 92,000 for Instagram.
As of now, there has been no official communication from Meta, the parent company overseeing both platforms, regarding the ongoing issues. Users are left to navigate this unexpected setback, relying on social media to voice their concerns and seek reassurance from one another.
