Messaging App Used by Trump Admin Hacked – Attacker May Have Stolen Data From Hundreds of Government Employees: Report

The recent breach of a messaging app utilized by members of the Trump administration and various US government officials has raised significant concerns regarding data security. According to a report by 404 Media, a hacker successfully infiltrated TeleMessage, an Israeli software company known for providing modified versions of popular messaging applications, including Signal.

Details of the Breach

It has been reported that the US government employs these customized messaging apps to archive communications. Notably, a photograph from Reuters last week captured Michael Waltz, the recently dismissed national security adviser, using TeleMessage to engage with colleagues during a cabinet meeting in the Trump administration. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump announced his intention to nominate Waltz as the US ambassador to the United Nations, despite Waltz’s earlier controversy involving the inadvertent inclusion of a journalist in a sensitive Signal chat regarding military strategies.

The identity of the hacker remains undisclosed, but 404 Media has reviewed the compromised materials that were provided anonymously. The hacker claimed that the breach took a mere 15 to 20 minutes and required minimal effort. While Waltz’s specific messages were not accessed, the hacker did manage to obtain data related to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, among other financial entities.

A screenshot shared by the hacker revealed access to a TeleMessage control panel, which displayed the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of CBP employees. This panel also indicated the ability to select from 747 entries, implying that the hacker had access to the data of hundreds of US government personnel.
