Pimpri Chinchwad police start app to address traffic woes | Pune News – The Times of India

Pimpri Chinchwad police have embarked on an innovative journey by launching a mobile messenger-based application designed to empower citizens in reporting traffic-related issues. This initiative, currently in its pilot phase, addresses concerns such as traffic rule violations, congestion, and the condition of roads.

Engaging Citizens in Traffic Management

Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey emphasized the simplicity of the application, stating that citizens can easily upload images of traffic violations directly through their mobile messenger. This streamlined process allows the traffic police to respond promptly, keeping the complainant informed about the actions taken in response to their reports.

“There’s no need for citizens to download a separate app,” Choubey explained. “They simply need to add their cellphone number to the ‘Traffic Buddy Application’ to connect.” He assured that while the application is currently being tested, plans are in place for a full-scale rollout in the near future.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bapu Bangar elaborated on the operational mechanics, noting that the police are already issuing ‘e-Challans’ to traffic violators identified through CCTV footage. “With this new application, citizens will serve as our eyes on the road,” Bangar remarked. “They can submit photos of any traffic violations, and upon verification, an e-Challan will be dispatched to the offender.” This collaborative approach aims to enhance road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

Supporting Senior Citizens

In addition to the traffic application, the Pimpri Chinchwad police are developing a dedicated app for senior citizens. This user-friendly and secure application will be available for download from the Play Store. Senior citizens will need to register to access its features, which include an emergency call function, local hospital information, and details about nearby recreational facilities.

Choubey highlighted that this initiative will also help the police maintain a comprehensive database of senior citizens residing in the Pimpri Chinchwad area. “Like the traffic application, this project is also in its pilot phase and is nearing completion,” he noted. Both applications are part of a broader digital transformation strategy initiated by the Pimpri Chinchwad police under the Chief Minister’s 100-day action plan.

Furthermore, the police department has revamped its website, making it more modern, secure, and user-friendly, ensuring that citizens have easy access to essential information and services.
