Samsung Chooses Google Messages for New Galaxy Models in the U.S.
Samsung has announced that they will be opting for Google Messages over their own messaging app for the newly launched Galaxy Z Flip6, Z Fold6, and “newer models” in the U.S. The decision was communicated through a notice on the Samsung Members app.
The update mentioned that Samsung Messages would no longer come preloaded on these new devices, although it could still be downloaded from the Galaxy Store with some features possibly missing. The specifics of these missing features have not been disclosed by the company.
The notice highlighted that Google Messages offers a more “enhanced experience” compared to Samsung’s native messaging service.
European and Canadian Models to Retain Samsung Messages
For now, this change seems to be limited to the U.S., with European and Canadian versions of the Galaxy Flip 6 and Fold 6 continuing to have Samsung Messages pre-installed.
Samsung has not confirmed whether this shift will extend to older models as well. In 2022, the company had already made Google Messages the default messaging app on the Galaxy S22, while keeping Samsung Messages as an alternative for users.
Google and Samsung’s Growing Partnership
The collaboration between Google and Samsung has gained significance as AI applications become more integrated into hardware devices. This move underscores the ongoing evolution of technology and user experience in the mobile industry.
