WhatsApp reveals ‘fun and expressive’ change coming to all phones soon

In a move to enhance user experience, WhatsApp has announced the introduction of filters and backgrounds for video calls, a feature that has long been available on platforms like Google Meet. This new addition aims to infuse video interactions with a sense of fun and expressiveness, allowing users to personalize their calls in ways previously unseen on the Meta-owned platform.

Creating a Playful Atmosphere

According to a recent blog post from WhatsApp, the filters are designed to foster a more playful atmosphere, whether by adding vibrant colors or crafting an artistic ambiance for video chats. The company stated, “Filters are designed to help you create a more playful atmosphere, whether that’s adding a splash of color or creating a more artistic feel for your video.”

With the new backgrounds feature, users can maintain their privacy while transforming their surroundings into cozy coffee shops or polished living rooms. This functionality not only enhances the visual appeal of calls but also offers a cleaner aesthetic.

WhatsApp users will have a wealth of options at their fingertips, with ten distinct choices available for both filters and backgrounds. The blog elaborated, “With 10 filters and 10 backgrounds to choose from, you can select and mix a wide range of options to create a unique look.”

The filter options include:

  • Warm
  • Cool
  • Black & White
  • Light leak
  • Dreamy
  • Prism light
  • Fisheye
  • Vintage TV
  • Frosted glass
  • Duo tone

Meanwhile, the background options feature:

  • Blur
  • Living room
  • Office
  • Cafe
  • Pebbles
  • Foodie
  • Smoosh
  • Beach
  • Sunset
  • Celebration
  • Forest

In addition to these exciting features, WhatsApp is also rolling out Touch Up and Low Light options. These enhancements are designed to boost user confidence by naturally improving the look and brightness of their environment, making video calls not only more vibrant but also more enjoyable.

Users can easily access these filters and backgrounds by selecting the effects icons located at the top right of the screen during one-on-one or group video calls. While an exact release date for this feature has yet to be confirmed, it is anticipated to launch in the coming weeks, promising to elevate the video calling experience for WhatsApp users everywhere.
