Android 17 QPR3 Beta 2 Brings 21 Fixes to Pixel Phones

In the latest development for Android enthusiasts, Google has rolled out Android 17 QPR3 Beta 2, addressing a total of 21 issues, including eight significant crash-and-reboot bugs. This update is now available for a variety of Pixel devices, enhancing user experience by targeting a range of problems from mobile service failures to glitches in lock screen functionality and media controls.

The beta release is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to refine Android 17 QPR3, with a stable version anticipated in March 2027. This update is compatible with an extensive array of devices, spanning from the Pixel 6a to the Pixel 11 series, as well as the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold models.

Crashes, calls and connectivity

Among the notable issues addressed, repeated crashes during routine usage have been a primary concern, accounting for eight of the reported problems. Additionally, Google has resolved unexpected shutdowns that occurred during WhatsApp video calls, alongside connectivity issues affecting cellular data, MMS, and hotspot services.

Some of the fixes are likely to be more apparent in everyday use. For instance, the Internet tile in Quick Settings previously displayed text even when mobile data was active without Wi-Fi. Furthermore, ongoing notifications on the lock screen could overlap with other elements, causing panel animations to stutter, a problem now rectified.

Minor interface adjustments have also been made. Users may notice that a pin icon, which could appear misaligned next to pinned apps in the share sheet, has been corrected. Additionally, the media-output dialog now respects the system’s monochrome theme when an external audio device is connected.

Lock-screen controls and customization

Beta 2 introduces a new lock-screen setting that enhances security by requiring users to unlock their device before making changes to Quick Settings tiles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, airplane mode, or mobile data. This feature was first seen in Android Canary 2609, as noted in the release documentation.

It’s important to note that this beta rollout is primarily for testing purposes, rather than a final release. Pixel owners who are compatible with the update can follow Google’s detailed step-by-step process to install it, while the company and testers continue to identify further changes ahead of the planned stable launch. Although the source material lists 21 fixes, not all details have been fully enumerated, leaving some anticipation for what’s to come.
