Android Auto 13.7 update now rolling out, hints at new apps
Google has initiated the rollout of the Android Auto 13.7 update, a release that, while not dramatically altering the user experience, introduces subtle enhancements beneath the surface. This marks the second update of 2025, and so far, users have not reported any significant changes in functionality. However, there are minor adjustments related to the recent integration of Material You, though these modifications remain largely imperceptible.
As is customary with updates to Android Auto, the primary focus of version 13.7 appears to be on refining the app through various bug fixes, although Google has not yet provided detailed confirmations on specific issues addressed.
Upon examining the app’s code, a glimpse into potential future features emerges. The latest version includes new strings that hint at the introduction of “new app” notifications. These notifications pertain to applications that are now accessible on Android Auto, as well as those that can be utilized while the vehicle is parked.
While similar notifications have been observed in previous versions, the current context aligns with Google’s ongoing initiative to enhance “Car ready mobile apps.” In a recent update from January, Google outlined a program set to launch in February 2025, aimed at simplifying the process for developers to adapt their applications for car displays, including both Android Auto and Android Automotive. This initiative will also encompass apps designed for use when the vehicle is stationary. Although the current update does not explicitly reference this program, the new notifications may very well relate to the forthcoming applications that will be introduced through it.
It is crucial to note that the February 2025 timeline mentioned by Google pertains specifically to Android Automotive OS, which operates natively in select vehicles. The enhancements for Android Auto, the phone projection platform, are expected to follow at a later date.
The rollout of Google’s Android Auto updates typically occurs in stages, and the latest version was launched at the end of last week, suggesting that it will be widely accessible throughout the current week. Users are encouraged to share any noticeable changes they encounter in the comments section.
