Files by Google app gets carousel view in beta

In a notable update, the Files by Google app has introduced a fresh approach to its “Recents” section in the latest beta version. Previously characterized by a 2×2 grid format showcasing folders like Camera and Screenshots, users had to tap into each folder to access their files. This traditional layout is undergoing a transformation that promises to enhance user experience significantly.

Enhanced Navigation with Carousel View

The new beta version, 1.4374.x, replaces the grid with a dynamic carousel of rectangular cards. Each card provides a preview of individual files, including documents and images, streamlining the navigation process. Users can now quickly identify and select files without the need to delve into multiple folders, making the retrieval of documents and images more efficient.

As reported by 9to5Google, this carousel not only displays file previews but also includes essential information such as file names and extensions. A convenient three-dot menu accompanies each card, offering options to share, delete, or star files for easy access later. Tapping on a card opens the file in full-screen mode, further enhancing usability.

Additionally, a See all option located in the top-right corner allows users to view all their folders at a glance, providing a comprehensive overview of their stored files.

This shift to a carousel-style display is not entirely new for Google, as similar features have been successfully implemented in other applications, such as the Memories page in Google Photos. Users eager to experience this updated interface are encouraged to update to the latest beta version and allow a moment for the carousel view to activate.
