In a recent update, Google has introduced an enhancement to its Find Hub for Android, following the discreet launch of Find Hub for Wear OS last week. This new feature introduces map layers, a quality-of-life improvement that aims to streamline user navigation.
At the heart of this update is a small Floating Action Button (FAB) positioned just beneath the account switcher. Users can tap this button to “Choose map type,” which now includes options such as “Default,” “Satellite,” and “Terrain.” In addition, the familiar “Traffic” layer from Google Maps is also available, providing users with essential information while navigating.
This feature proves particularly useful when attempting to locate a misplaced device. However, it is important to note that the map type selection can only be made from the main map view—whether it’s Devices or People—and not from the detailed view after selecting a specific device.
The rollout of this update coincides with version 3.1.485-2 of Find Hub for Android, which is being distributed widely through the Play Store. However, a server-side component of the update is still in the process of becoming fully available, as it has only begun to appear on select devices.
