Fitbit’s Public Preview app is missing data for some users

The Fitbit app is currently experiencing issues for a segment of its user base, with reports surfacing on platforms like Reddit regarding the app’s new timeline-style Today tab. Many users have noted that this feature appears largely blank, displaying only minimal information such as weekly exercise progress and a few daily statistics.

According to a roundup by PiunikaWeb, the updated Public Preview version of the Fitbit app seems to be malfunctioning, failing to deliver the comprehensive insights and AI-generated text summaries that users expect. This is particularly concerning for those transitioning their legacy Fitbit accounts to Google, as they are encountering additional complications.

AI Integration and User Experience

The current Public Preview build of the Fitbit app heavily relies on AI technology, specifically utilizing Gemini to generate text summaries and personalized guidance based on user data. This innovative feature is designed to occupy a significant portion of the redesigned home screen. However, in the absence of these AI-generated insights, users are left with a predominantly empty interface.

Interestingly, some users, including myself, have not experienced these issues firsthand. On my devices, the app remains engaging, offering AI-generated prompts such as invitations to participate in a blood pressure study and reminders about my Pixel Watch usage.

Moreover, PiunikaWeb highlights concerns from users regarding the potential loss of legacy Fitbit data amid the ongoing transition to Google accounts. A moderator from Fitbit’s help forums has indicated that some data may have been relocated from the home screen in the Public Preview design and could instead be found on the app’s Fitness tab. For those who suspect data loss following their account transition, a simple restart of both the tracker and the app has been suggested as a potential remedy.
