Gemini Omni is ‘like Nano Banana for video’ and I couldn’t believe the results

Gemini has emerged as a versatile companion for smartphone users, offering a range of functionalities from smart home control to generative AI creation. The app’s latest feature, Gemini Omni, was unveiled at Google I/O 2026 and is part of the June Pixel Drop. This innovative video-generation tool aims to simplify the process of creating multimedia content through conversational prompts, much like the popular Nano Banana for image generation.

Having tested Gemini Omni on my Pixel 10 Pro, I found the experience to be notably refined compared to previous models. While I don’t frequently delve into AI video creation, Gemini Omni has certainly piqued my interest for future projects. The app’s landing page encourages users to think of it as a video counterpart to Nano Banana, emphasizing its user-friendly approach.

Currently, Gemini Omni is available not just on Google Pixel devices but on any smartphone, provided users have the appropriate Google AI subscription. The app offers a free version with limited access, while more extensive features are available to subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra.

How I create videos with AI using Gemini Omni

Gemini Omni is designed to accommodate various inputs and conversational prompts, making it accessible for all users. To get started, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the Gemini app.
  2. Tap the + button and select Videos.
  3. In the prompting box, you can upload a photo or video by tapping the bottom-left button, or choose between Landscape or Portrait aspect ratios using the bottom-right button.

Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ve successfully created your first video with Gemini Omni. The beauty of this tool lies in its flexibility; you can mix text, images, audio, or video to enhance your prompts. If you’re uncertain about where to begin, the app provides suggestions that guide you through the process. For instance, the Talking pets option prompts you to upload a picture of your pet to tailor the video output.

Should you use Veo or Gemini Omni for videos?

As Gemini Omni takes the spotlight, it effectively replaces the Veo models within the Gemini app, although Veo remains available in other Google products. Based on my experience with both, I lean towards Gemini Omni for its broad input support and intuitive suggestions. Creating engaging AI videos has never been easier.

For example, I recently crafted a whimsical video of my seafood dinner coming to life, and Gemini Omni delivered on its promise. While I may not frequently generate videos, I am confident in Omni’s capabilities when the occasion arises.

With Gemini Omni now integrated into devices like the Pixel 10, users can enjoy exclusive features such as Screen Reactions and Bubbles, enhancing their overall experience. The future of video creation appears bright with Gemini Omni leading the charge.
