Google Contacts app looks a little different now, here’s what changed

Google has introduced a series of updates to its Contacts app for Android, enhancing user experience with subtle yet impactful changes. The latest version, 4.49, features a new card prominently displayed in the Organize tab, providing users with essential information about their contacts.

Enhanced Sync Features

At the top of the Organize tab, users will now find a card that displays their email address, the total number of contacts stored in their Google Account, and the duration since the last synchronization. This addition aims to streamline the management of contacts, ensuring users are always informed about their data status.

Accompanying this card is an info icon that offers a brief explanation:

Contacts stored with your Google Account automatically sync with this device and are available across Google services anywhere you sign-in, including contacts.google.com.

Streamlined Sync Settings

In a bid to simplify navigation, the app now includes a “Google Contacts sync settings” option directly beneath the new card. Tapping this option takes users to a dedicated page where they can easily toggle the syncing feature on or off, eliminating the need to navigate through the previous settings menu.

Account Menu Adjustments

Another noteworthy change is the modification of the account menu. Users will no longer see a comprehensive list of all signed-in accounts by default; instead, they must now tap a chevron to expand the list. This adjustment is designed to create a cleaner interface, allowing users to focus on the most relevant information at a glance.

These updates come shortly after the introduction of new features that allow users to set emoji and monograms as contact pictures, further personalizing their experience within the app. As Google continues to refine its offerings, users can look forward to a more intuitive and engaging way to manage their contacts.
