Google Ends Pixel 10 Exclusivity for Journal App in New Feature Drop

In a notable shift for its Pixel lineup, Google has decided to extend the availability of its Journal app beyond the confines of the Pixel 10. Previously a hallmark of this specific model, the app will now also be accessible to users of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series, as announced during the November 2025 Feature Drop. However, it remains exclusive to these devices for the time being, with no current plans to roll it out to non-Pixel smartphones.

The Journal app serves as a personal digital diary, allowing users to document their daily lives in a private space on their phones. It offers a more sophisticated experience compared to Google Keep, enhanced by the capabilities of Gemini Nano, Google’s advanced AI technology. Unfortunately, this means that older models, such as the Pixel 7, will not be able to access the app due to hardware limitations.

While there is no confirmation regarding the future availability of the Journal app on non-Pixel devices, Google has a history of introducing select features from its Pixel range to a broader audience. Notable examples include Google Live Translate, which was adapted for non-Pixel devices, albeit with some differences in functionality due to the absence of the Tensor chip.

Other features in the update

The November 2025 Feature Drop brings a wealth of additional enhancements alongside the Journal app’s expanded availability. Among these updates are notification summaries designed to streamline the influx of messages and emails, making it easier for users to stay organized. Furthermore, Scam Detection is being introduced for Pixel 6 and newer models in the United States, providing an extra layer of security for users.

For those with an eye for design, the update also features the “Wicked: For Good” theme parks, inspired by the popular Wicked film series. This aesthetic enhancement includes custom wallpapers, sounds, icons, and GIFs, allowing users to personalize their devices in a unique and engaging way.
