Gemini App Set for Major User Experience Overhaul
The Gemini app has established itself as a functional tool, fulfilling its primary purpose effectively. However, the user experience has not received the same level of attention, leading to some users hesitating to fully embrace the platform. In a bid to address these concerns, Google is reportedly gearing up for a significant revamp aimed at enhancing user interaction.
In a recent discussion on X (formerly Twitter), Raiza Martin, a former Google employee, articulated her preference for ChatGPT over Gemini, attributing her decision largely to the app’s user interface. She candidly remarked:
I’m sorry to say this but most of what stops me from switching from the ChatGPT app to Gemini (today) is literally front end, and I know googlers will do anything but front end eng work!!
Logan Kilpatrick, the product lead for Google AI Studio, responded to Martin’s comments, indicating that Google is making a “huge investment” in what he referred to as “Gemini App UX 2.0.” This initiative suggests a commitment to refining the user experience and addressing the concerns raised by users like Martin. Furthermore, Kilpatrick revealed that the team is also in the process of developing a macOS application, expanding the app’s accessibility.
For several months, Android Authority has been closely monitoring the anticipated changes to Gemini’s overlay. Through detailed APK teardowns, insights have emerged regarding a new compact overlay interface designed for interacting with Gemini Live. While it remains unclear whether this development is part of the broader Gemini app UX 2.0 revamp, it certainly hints at a proactive approach to improving user engagement.
